Stephen Varanko III attended the Randolph Macon Academy between 1996 and 2000. He participated in several extracurricular and athletic activities. He was an active participant in the honor council and the student council, being elected president of both organizations in 1999. He had also served as an escort for the Apple Blossom Parade for two years.

Besides this, he had also worked as a server at the 4-H center in the Spring of 1999.

Mr. Varanko had been an avid sportsman in his youth. He played varsity basketball for four years. He began playing lacrosse from freshman through senior years and cross-country from his sophomore through senior years. He would play lacrosse again in college as a walk-on player in 2001 at the Virginia Military Institute.

  • Among the awards he received for his academic performance include the All-American Scholar’s Award for Chemistry. Some of his achievements as an athlete are as follows: 
  • Recipient of the Coach’s Award for basketball in the 10th and 11th grade 
  • Named Most Improved Player in basketball in the 11th grade 
  • Named Most Improved Player in cross-country in the 11th grade 
  • Part of the All-Conference 2nd Team in cross-country in the 11th grade 
  • Part of the All-Conference 1st Team in cross-country in the 12th grade 
  • Part of the 1st Team in the Dulaney Lacrosse All-Conference 
  • Named Most Valuable Player in varsity lacrosse in the 11th and 12th grades


Stephen Varanko III was mentioned in Who's Who Among American High School Students, a catalog and website dedicated to recognizing students who have excelled in academics, extracurricular activities, and community service.
